Description
The first proper development of Vaakel really began in 2007, although others had found it before. It's a great area of crags with plenty of development potential, but somewhat overlooked by other sandstone areas like Bressay recently. The rock here is excellent quality sandstone, some of it fluted with a real gritstone feel. The few crags that have been climbed are well worth it, but the other geos and walls tend to be a bit disappointing.
Access
On the A970 South, turn left signposted to North Town. In the village the road bends sharply to the right. Park here at the croft (next to the round stone building), and walk along the track for 200m. As the track ends, carry on straight across the fields. This takes you to the middle of the crags.
Routes
Sorry but you need to be logged in to the site to see routes and problems at crags. Of course it costs nothing to register and you’ll be able to see all! Thanks.
