The short story of a new crag

Skaw Point

Situated on Lamba Ness, north Unst in an area of small stacks and pinnacles, heavily militarised bunkers - WWI & II - so good for bivvies. This is Shetland's most northerly crag.

A boulder field at the base of the crag is protected from the sea and usually dry. Crag dries quickly. Stakes are needed for belays on the main wall. Rock on the main wall needs care as it is deformed by its proximity to a shear zone.

Unst is the most northerly island of Shetland and requires 2 ferries to get to. Once there, drive north to Haroldswick and on to Norwick. Continue to Skaw and turn right down old military track. It is usually possible to drive down the track and park close to the crag. The main crag is marked as "The Buss" on OS Explorer maps.

Sorry but you need to be logged in to the site to see routes and problems at crags. Of course it costs nothing to register and you’ll be able to see all! Thanks.
